We would like to thank Lydia Sobol for being available to discuss the Lake Country experience at their restaurant Sobie’s.  Lydia, along with her husband Mike, are the owner of Sobie’s, located in downtown Oconomowoc.   It is a true farm to table restaurant located in Lake Country for all to enjoy.  I sat down with Lydia July 13, 2020 to discuss her business and more.

What is your favorite menu item? 

It is hard to pick just one, I would have to say the Butter Burger, Friday Fish Fry (broasted), and the House Salad. The menu changes based on the seasons.

What is the goal of your restaurant?

This is a true farm to table experience.  All of the menu options are made from scratch, using local food sources, from place like the Farmers Market, Local Farms, and other local food suppliers.

How has the current health virus changed your business?

We just reopened for inside dining.  We had curbside pick-up available and did excellent through that.  We still offer the to go curbside pick up, plus the traditional dine in experience.

Can you tell me more about the atmosphere, decor, and other items available here?

Most of the furniture and furnishings are repurposed/reclaimed from vintage shops.  The newest item is our display where we offer local products for sale, things like honey, soaps, and other items.

Can you tell me more about your staff?

My husband is the head Chef.  About Half of our staff comes from the high school and college. All of our staff is treated like family, and 2 of the recent high school graduates have enrolled in a culinary arts college degree programs.
