“I have a firm belief that if we are going to work together to end the negative stigma associated with seeking mental health support, a business model that can support the professionals is vital.”

About Monica Rodriguez
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My husbands name is Glenn and we met in Seattle 11 years ago while working at a residential mental health facility. We have 5 indoor cats and take care of a number of feral cats in our neighborhood. Our cats bring so much joy and laughter to our home. Glenn and I are dedicated to honoring the land and animals where we live and my husband does a lot of American Indian ceremonies on our land.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
We have lived and worked in Oconomowoc since 2015 after moving here from Seattle.
Q: Please tell us about your career and what you do, how you chose this path, your growth since starting and what you love most about what you do.
My path started out as a pre-med student in college when I quickly realized that I have a queazy stomach. I quickly changed to a psychology degree and went on to get my Masters In Mental Health Counseling as well as degrees in Mythology and Depth Psychology. My career in mental health started while living in Colorado and working with women who were in a domestic violent relationship. To this day I still thoroughly enjoy working with women who are in abusive relationships. I find joy and passion in helping clients work through their story. Helping them look at the story they have created, where it comes from and then integrating tools to change their story moving forward.
Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now?
Building my practice and the fear of failure was the most difficult challenge for me. I had to learn to break down the fears and negative thought patterns that I was experiencing. As I built my practice I had to continue to having the mindset of abundance.
Q: What is the most rewarding part of your work?
I love helping people and supporting them to change their lives. The other night I walked out of my office building and when I saw all of the cars outside, I was filled with so much gratitude that I was able to build a space for people to heal.
Q: Do you have any future goals for your business, or do you have anything exciting coming up that you can share with readers?
The On Purpose Psyche brand has grown into a variety of different branches with the largest being On Purpose Thrive. On Purpose Thrive was originally built as a result of my frustration with feeling that talk therapy alone was getting the results my clients deserved to see. Thrive is a team of doctors, therapists, and specialized practitioners who have come together to help children, adults, and families who feel like they have exhausted their options in a traditional therapeutic model. Thrive recognizes the person as a whole and addresses the mind and body connection.
The Thrive team consists of professionals who are specialized in areas of mental, emotional, relational, nutritional, neurological and physical well-being. The Thrive practitioners work as a team and each client is given a tailored care plan based on their unique needs. Every client and family is provided with a Care Coordinator who will keep them updated on the progress of the client and support them throughout the entire process.
