Dawn Leader

Meet Dawn Leader

Dawn Leader has lived in the lake country area most of her life. She enjoys the forests and lakes in the area, and loves to walk or hike through fields and woods. Dawn feels a deep connection with nature, and it’s where she feels at home. Grabbing her grand kids and heading out in nature is something she enjoys. She lives on the edge of prairie restoration land, so she has a big back yard that is ever evolving as nature does.

Dawn has spent most of her life in the accounting field, but left her executive position last December to explore her passion of helping others. She is a great listener and has no opinion or judgement on others lives. Yoga has been a practice of hers for over 45 years. In her twenties she felt broken, and knew there must be something in life to help find joy and peace. Dawn has studied and practiced holistic modalities for over 25 years: Reiki, sound healing, meditation, crystal healing, life coaching and mystic studies.

Dawn says her greatest healing has come over the past year and a half when she began to find self acceptance and release judgement on herself. She feels like a new person. The practice of being kinder to yourself has impacted her life in a way she couldn’t image a year ago.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I have 2 adult children, a son and daughter, and 6 grandchildren.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

I am a holistic practitioner. I fell in love with yoga, meditation and spirituality when I was young, and have been a seeker of feeling better, living better and loving more. This past year I added a certificate in coaching to my list of studies and offerings. I am a great listener and help others find ways to self compassion and peace within their life.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

Angelina’s Ristorante – great Old Fashioneds, Stolley’s Hogg Alley – fish fry and breakfast, Lucky Chucky’s Beach Bar and Grill – beautiful views and outdoor seating.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

I purchased my grandparents home 26 years ago, although I’ve lived most of my life in the Lake Country area.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

Robert Manegold. He was an employer that shifted the way I thought about business. He believed in and allowed me to find my wings and soar in his company.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

Most things sci-fi. I love to watch or read what others have dreamed. It allows me to expand my own curiosity.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

Find self compassion and ways to create peace and joy in your life. I use mindfulness, yoga and meditation. I discovered yoga when I was 15.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

So many options, however, The Kiltie has always had great memories – my mom and dad’s first dates, custard with my kids, car hops.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

I would invite Isis, goddess of Egypt, to lunch on the rooftop of The Etcetera. I love the history and myths of Egypt, and would enjoy hearing the stories of what it was like to be a powerful woman in her time. Plus, eating outside overlooking Fowler Lake is quite enjoyable.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

Hiking – I love all the possibilities of a hike or walk. So many trails to choose from or paths to stroll on.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

In the next 5 to 10 years I see myself leading groups of people toward finding life balance. I would love to lead groups of people to ancient places around the globe, that would include meditation, yoga and emotional coaching.

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

Most people know I’m intuitive. Everyone is surprised by the things I know. What they may not know are the things I see or know from the past, present and future and how it impacts their life.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

The Kettle Moraine State Forest. It is the most beautiful thing in our area.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

My grand children. We love being outdoors.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Nature, love and sanctuary.
