Meet Jamie Greisinger
Born and raised in the heart of Green Bay, my unwavering love for the Packers was ingrained in me from a young age. Growing up, my room was adorned with a towering Brett Favre poster, surrounded by vibrant green and gold decor that reflected my unwavering loyalty to the team. Alongside me on this wild journey was my younger brother, who, much to our parents’ dismay, served as my partner in WWE-inspired antics and has now become my lifelong best friend. Recently, we both embarked on the adventure of adding puppies to our families, a change that has brought about both drastic and awe-inspiring transformations to our daily routines.
We were raised with a deep-rooted appreciation for animals and the great outdoors, instilled in us by our parents. My childhood dream was to dedicate my life to nature’s creatures. However, after experiencing the emotional toll of working at animal hospitals and zoos, I came to the realization that I couldn’t bear the weight of the heart-wrenching cases. Instead, I decided to follow in my mother’s footsteps, venturing into the realm of human care as a physical therapist. The joy I derive from helping individuals of all ages comprehend the reasons behind their pain and limitations and guiding them on the path to rediscovering the activities they hold dear, is immeasurable.
About Jamie Greisinger
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
For the past 13 years, I have shared a remarkable journey with my husband, Jordan. Our love story has endured the challenges of distance, with six of those years spent longing for each other’s presence across great distances. Together, we have created a loving home that includes our beloved 6-year-old cat, Mishka, and a recent addition to our family, Summer, an adorable golden retriever puppy who joined us just last month. While Mishka and Summer are still discovering how to play harmoniously, they find joy in observing the wildlife that graces our patio through the glass door- deer and ducks captivate their attention.
Last year, we took a leap and embraced homeownership, settling in the charming town of Oconomowoc. Now we navigate the responsibilities of maintaining our home, tend to the intricacies of landscaping, and embrace the adventure of raising a puppy. We are learning invaluable lessons along the way, strengthening our bond and building a life filled with love, laughter, and new experiences.
Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do (whether working in our community, a business owner, volunteer, etc.). How did you choose that path?
My journey into becoming a physical therapist was driven by a combination of factors that shaped my passion for this field. From a young age, I developed a profound love for being active. Engaging in various sports and activities fueled my curiosity about the mechanics of the human body. Intrigued by the principles of biomechanics, physics, and anatomy, I sought to understand how our bodies function and, more importantly, how to recover from the numerous injuries I experienced during my childhood. This personal quest for knowledge, coupled with my desire to help others overcome their physical challenges, ultimately led me down the path of becoming a physical therapist.
Q: What do you love most about what you do?
I love being able to provide people hope. Many of my clients have been to multiple therapists and doctors and have been told what they can’t do. Being in private practice allows me more time with patients and the ability to assess the entire body. I love the look on my clients faces, when they notice improvements in neck pain and motion from working on the foot. The body is so interconnected. You have to go back to old childhood injuries to understand movement compensations and find the true cause of their current limitations.
Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?
Understanding and creating personal boundaries. In college, I worked five jobs with rotating shifts to be able to pay for everything. I had many health and sleep issues that stemmed from that. Listening to your body is important. It will tell you when you need to refocus your goals and take a break. I don’t regret any of those challenges as it allows me to relate and identify lifestyle changes that need to occur with my patients.
Q: What are some of your future goals? Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to share?
In my professional journey as a physical therapist, I have recently embarked on an exciting opportunity for growth and development. My workplace has provided us with new online courses focused on identifying the primary driver of our patients’ pain. These courses have ignited my enthusiasm and deepened my understanding of pain management and patient care. However, what truly exhilarates me is the prospect of attending the in-person courses offered exclusively in Canada and Australia. These locations not only offer a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the field. They also present a chance for me to explore and immerse myself in the vibrant cultures and breathtaking landscapes these countries have to offer. I am eagerly looking forward to this next chapter of continued learning, professional growth, and personal exploration in these remarkable locations.
Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?
Job shadow and apply for early admissions! Job shadowing helped me understand the positive and negatives about each career and allowed me to find one I was really excited about. Physical therapy is a wonderful career as you can work in a variety of settings, specialize in a number of different treatments and work with different patient populations. It’s important to shadow people in each of those settings; so, you know what internship site and school to prioritize.
