Ava Melvin

Let’s give a warm “Spotlight on Seniors” welcome to Ava Melvin – Divine Savior Holy Angels High School!

Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I am the oldest of 2 daughters. My younger sister, Aubrey, is a sophomore at DSHA. We also have a dog named Pickles and my parents won’t admit it but he is definitely the favorite child.

What are your interests and hobbies?

I love baking brownies, especially when I have more important things to be doing. I also love reading, working out, and spending time with loved ones.

Tell us about one of your favorite classes in school.

My favorite class is hands down AP Chemistry. It is such a fascinating class that has really changed my outlook on the physical makeup of the world around us. It has also strongly influenced my intended major, biochemistry.

What’s your least favorite?

English.

Do you have a favorite memory from the school year?

Spirit week during homecoming.

What’s something you worked hard on this past year, a moment or an achievement you’re particularly proud of?

Improving my mental and numerical abilities in my sport, rowing. I have truly learned so much more about the sport itself as well as how to dig deeper than I thought I could physically do before. It has also been exciting to watch my numerical improvements as well!

What are you looking forward to in the upcoming year?

The new and unique experiences that come along with college, as well as rowing in college!

What are some of your goals (academic, sports, personal)?

Some of my goals are to overall improve myself. I am hoping to improve my rowing abilities, as well as, continuing to improve who I am and become the best version of myself!

What is something you are good at and/or enjoy doing?

Talking!

Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

As a plastic surgeon that specializes in helping burn victims.

Explain a time you wanted to give up but didn’t?

Honestly, memorization is not my strong suit. So when studying for a test that just seems like our memorization, I have felt like just giving up and stopping, but haven’t and it has been extremely rewarding!

What are your favorite memories?

Those spent with my favorite people.

Do you have plans for the future?

I plan to attend the University of Michigan this fall and will continue my rowing career there as well!

If you could do anything, what would it be?

Helping others.

What do you love about Lake Country area?

I love how it feels like a bubble. Everyone knows everyone and it’s super safe. Plus in the summer it feels like something straight out of a movie!

Do you have an unwritten rule at your school that everyone follows?

It is most definitely following the uniform. Our uniform requires our skirt to be to our knees but no one wears it anywhere close to there.

What advice would you give to an incoming student?

Just be you and don’t be afraid to meet new people!

A Message To Ava from Her Family!

Congrats, Ava! We are so incredibly proud of you and your blind faith that God’s plan is always best. There were many twists and turns to arrive here but we know you’ll thrive at Michigan. Your incredible determination and hard work is paying off and we cannot wait to see all the places you’ll go. Love you more than you know. 💙💛  #GoBlue
