About Patrick Hogan

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I have a wife Lori, a son Sean, and a daughter Meaghan.

Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do (whether working in our community, a business owner, volunteer, etc.). How did you choose that path?

I am the dayshift Sgt. for the City of Oconomowoc police department. Civil service is in my family. I have relatives that were in law enforcement when I decided to get into this field. Listening to them talk about the profession sparked interest for me.

Q: What do you love most about what you do?

I enjoy making connections with people and helping people in situations that they may consider the worst day of their life.

Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?

Dealing with the divorce of my parents. I was angry for a long time after they divorced. It took a life changing event within my family for me to get over my anger and become a better person.

Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?

I would advise them to apply everywhere. Get that first job and gain experience. If you are looking to work in a specific department and don’t get hired at first, don’t give up.

Patrick Hogan & Our Community

Q: What is your favorite thing about our community, favorite thing to do, or something unique about our community that you love? (Feel free to share as much as you’d like!)

I like the variety of things to do, from the Farmer’s Market to the Holiday Train. I enjoy the beer garden in the summer and German Christmas Market.

Q: Who is an interesting person you’ve met here in our community, and how have they inspired you?

Jason Curtis. I’m inspired by his endless energy and positivity.

Q: What 3 words would you use to describe our community?

Supportive, Engaging, Growing.

For Fun

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I played Rugby in college.

Q: What is your favorite book, TV show, movie, poem, or song? Why?

Battlebots. It amazes me they can build 250 lb. robots that can move like they do.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

My family.

Q: If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be with? Why?

It would be my grandfather Roger Hoerig. I never met him. He was on a bomber crew in WWII. I would really like to hear his life story.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

Golfing at Augusta.

Q:  What is the best excuse someone used when trying to get out of a speeding ticket?

The best was a man saying he was rushing his wife to the hospital because she was in labor. I didn’t believe him because I didn’t see her in the car until she moaned loudly from a contraction in the back seat. The worst excuse is when people say they aren’t from the area. Are the speed limit signs different from where they live?

Q:  What is your most memorable day ever?

I would have to say my most personal memorable day(s) would be the birth of my children.

Q:  Do you prefer sunsets or sunrises?

Sunsets. Sunrises are too early in the morning for me unless I’m working.

Q:  What is your favorite sport?

College football.

Q: Any general life advice you would like to share?

Cherish your loved ones and tell them you love them as often as you can. You never know when you won’t have that chance anymore.
