About Christopher Kent
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My wife, Sarah, and I moved to Pewaukee in 2019 and have enjoyed being a part of this wonderful community! Having twins, Liam and Ella, who attend school at PLE, and our youngest, Henry, who is three and stays home with us, keeps us quite busy. We have a strong family bond and enjoy spending quality time together.
Having the support of our extended family is truly a blessing. Sarah’s parents live in Muskego and my father in Madison. They are able to come in weekly to spend time with our children. The presence of their grandparents in their lives is so valuable, offering love, guidance, and a unique family connection. We also have cousins nearby, providing opportunities for our children to grow up with close family relationships.
Living in Pewaukee, we have access to the beauty of Wisconsin’s outdoors, and we make the most of it as a family. Exploring nature, engaging in outdoor activities, and traveling together are the ways we like to create lasting memories and strengthen our bond. Our puppy, Buddy, brings even more joy and companionship to our household.
Our family is at the center of our lives, and our commitment to creating a loving and engaging environment for our children. We cherish these precious moments, and continue to nurture our family connections, involvement in kids’ activities, and love for the outdoors. Our journey as a family in Pewaukee is filled with happiness, love, and beautiful memories.
Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do (whether working in our community, a business owner, volunteer, etc.). How did you choose that path?
Out of college I started out teaching in Normandy, France, for several years before returning stateside and getting an MBA in marketing. Then I did non-profit and agency work for a time. When my twins were babies yet, my mom was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I stepped away to be dad and spend that time with my mom before she passed away. This year it all comes full circle as I return to teach French at Pewaukee High School come fall. On the side I play music as a solo gig all around.
Q: What do you love most about what you do?
As dad and teacher, the absolute best part is the opportunity to make a positive impact – helping kids build character, confidence, believe in themselves, and teaching them to care for others.
Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?
When you meet someone it seems one of the first things asked is, “what do you do for work?” Culturally that question is often synonymous with identity. I love cycling, so in the analogy of a wheel. Your career is like a spoke – it’s one of many – and they all go to the wheel hub. We’re all complex, have a lot of spokes, if you will. So, what’s the hub? Well, I’m a Jesus follower who happens to teach and play music among other things. For me the hub guides not any one spoke, so I’ve made more than a few counter-culture life choices along the way… I left a marketing career without looking back, I’ve been a stay-at-home dad, done church council work over income-based work… and living life this way you’ll have to let go of things, and sometimes people look at you sideways. But in everything lost, something’s gained.
Q: What are some of your future goals? Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to share?
Just to patiently keep growing in my character and faith, all else flows out from there.
Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?
The only legacy that truly lasts is integrity and character, passed on and translated to the next generation. Everything else is eventually forgotten or discarded with time.
Christopher Kent & Our Community
Q: Who is an interesting person you’ve met here in our community, and how have they inspired you?
Pastor Karen Natterstad of Pewaukee. We share an interest in cycling and outdoors. She is as kind, joyful and compassionate a person as you’ll find. As a leader she has the ability to relate and connect to all voices, and makes a positive impact on everyone she touches.
Q: Do you have a favorite coffee shop, cocktail shop, or restaurant?
My favorite places are Twisted Vine and Artisan 179. Not only do I love playing music there, but the owners and staffs at both are wonderful, and both places provide a wonderful ambiance.
Q: What 3 words would you use to describe our community?
Friendly, scenic, fun.
For Fun
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I’m uniquely simple, I love all the “small” stuff life has to bring.
Q: What is your favorite book, TV show, movie, poem, or song? Why?
Handle’s Messiah. The oratorio musically and lyrically moves me deeply every time I listen to it.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
Mom. Her life view was centered on living for God and others. It’s become the central focus in mine.
Q: If you were a drink (can be a coffee drink, alcoholic, non-alcoholic, etc.), what would you be?
Water, the source of life.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
My mom once answered this question, “Just to keep on doing what I’m doing.” I feel the same. I’ve been blessed to see a lot, with family, exercising my passions, etc. I’d like to keep growing as an individual, being the best dad, husband, neighbor I can be. If I can achieve that I’d be happy. And if I’m fortunate to travel more, do more, too, that’s a bonus I wouldn’t turn down.
Q: Any general life advice you would like to share?
Every day is a blessing and is full of blessings. Enjoy it.
