Meet “Skipper Dave”
Skipper Dave is your on-field host at Lake Country Dockhounds games. Dave grew up a Lake Country resident, got married here, raised his children here, and is proud to call the area home. He rode bikes from Hartland to Holy Hill with his church youth group, played baseball in the Hartland Little League, won the Lake Country Reporter Youth Golf Tournament, and was a seven semester Honor Roll student at Arrowhead High School. Having lived in other cities and other states through the years, he will tell you with full conviction, there is no better place than Lake Country, Wisconsin.
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My beautiful wife Michelle has been putting up with my antics for almost 30 years. We have raised 3 wonderful children and now have 6 awesome grandkids.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am the on-field host for the Lake Country Dockhounds – the greatest show in Wisconsin sports. I love the action, and I love our team. But most of all, I love interacting with the Dockhounds fans during every game at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
That depends on where I am and what I am hungry for… some favorites are Ella’s Public House in Wales, Tofte’s Table in Waukesha, Tabby’s Wine Bar in Hartland, and my favorite deep dish pizza at Rosati’s in Oconomowoc.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
Other than some brief time away from Wisconsin, I have called Lake Country home for over 50 years.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Years ago, I was lucky enough to meet and have a long conversation with Al McGuire, the legendary former coach of the Marquette Warriors National Championship Basketball team. I remember his passion about what coaching youth sports can do to help young people become future leaders for society. His core beliefs about coaching had so much more to do with helping shape the lives of young men and women and much less about winning and losing. That’s what made him a winner.
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
My Mount Rushmore of films would include: Casablanca, North by Northwest, Shawshank Redemption, Crazy Stupid Love and Unforgiven. Although I could watch any of the Marvel films any day.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Start every day with a positive attitude and give everyone the benefit of the doubt.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
I would love to meet for lunch with any of my former teachers (Grade School, High School, College) and just catch up with them and see what they are enthusiastic about today. The spot? Maybe Rustix in Eagle.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love the lakes in Lake Country. If you are an active, outdoor personality, this is the best place to swim, kayak, sail, boat or just have a great time with friends and family.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
In 5 years I see myself hosting the Miles Wolff Cup at Wisconsin Brewing Company Park with the Dockhounds winning the championship. Wherever I am in 10 years, I am certain my grandkids (all 6 of them currently) will be close by my side.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
There is nothing interesting about me, and if there was, I would have told everybody about it already. (That was Skipper Dave’s whole answer to this question, but we’re going to sneak in the following: Not only is Skipper Dave the face of Lake Country’s own Dockhounds, he is a published playwright, Lake Country Players actor, wrote, produced and directed an independent feature film, has his own film company, is a friend to animals, and loves Lombardi quotes.)
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
My wife.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My kids and grandkids.
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Three words to describe “home” to me? LAKE COUNTRY WISCONSIN. (Same as it’s ever been)
