Joe & Chad Lindmark

A quick look at their reviews tells you everything you need to know about the impact Hartland Overhead Door has made throughout Lake Country. The comments are filled with words like trustworthy, dependable, honest, fair, and knowledgeable—qualities that can’t be faked and can only be earned through years of consistent service. Their customers don’t just appreciate the work they perform; they appreciate the way they make people feel taken care of.

Those reviews paint a picture of two brothers who’ve stayed true to their roots, who still show up personally, and who continue to deliver the same level of quality their father taught them from day one. When clients say the doors installed decades ago still run beautifully, or that they only work with “the boys,” it reflects the deeper truth: Joe and Chad have built a legacy. One that can be measured not just in years of service, but in the trust and loyalty of the community they proudly serve.

About Joe & Chad Lindmark

My name is Joe Lindmark, and my twin brother, Chad, and I are proud owners of Hartland Overhead Door. Lake Country has been home to us our entire lives. Our parents founded the company in 1986 after our dad had already spent 15 years in the garage door industry. By the time we were 12, we were spending our summers on job sites, helping in any way we could. In high school, we took part in an apprenticeship program so we could leave school early, install doors, and learn the trade firsthand.

It’s funny walking into homes today and seeing doors we installed more than 30 years ago—still working beautifully. Dad taught us to do things the right way the first time, and we still follow that same approach. He always told us, “Even if you’re young, people will respect you once they see you know what you’re doing.” Those early lessons stuck with us. We learned not just the mechanics of the job, but what it means to be part of a community: treat people with respect, do the job right, and be fair—because you’ll run into your customers at the grocery store and the post office.

As Lake Country has grown, so has our business. We began buying the company from our parents in 2004, right around the time our own families were growing. Balancing a busy business with busy households wasn’t easy, but we made it work. We’ve also been incredibly fortunate to build a team we trust—many of whom came to us through friendships, family, or friends of friends. Even those who aren’t related feel like family.

Chad and I are still out every day doing sales and service calls, and we still hear customers ask for “the boys.” It’s humbling to realize we’ve been serving some of the same families for more than 35 years. We used to install doors for our friends’ parents and grandparents—now we’re installing them for our kids’ friends.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I’m married to Krissy, who keeps our office running smoothly and handles sales. We have three children:
James, a Timberline Bible School graduate who now works with us
Johnny, who is currently attending Timberline
Grace, a junior at AHS

Chad is married to Chrissy—yes, the twins married Krissy and Chrissy, and no, they’re not twins! Chad and Chrissy have four children:
Wade, a junior at UW–Madison studying Political Science
Avry, a sophomore pursuing Landscape Architecture and Design
Naomi, a freshman at AHS
Luke, a 7th grader at Lake Country

Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do (whether working in our community, a business owner, volunteer, etc.). How did you choose that path?

see above!

Q: What do you love most about what you do?

What I love most about my job is simple—I get to help people. Chad’s wife always jokes that we have hero complexes, and she’s probably not wrong. Every day we get calls from people who are stuck and can’t get out, and we show up, repair their door, and get their day back on track. There’s something incredibly satisfying about fixing a problem, helping someone in a moment of stress, and knowing you made their life a little easier. And honestly, it’s amazing how something as simple as a garage door can completely change the look—and even the feel—of a home.

Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?

One of the most challenging moments we’ve faced was the transition of the business from our parents. We eventually worked our way through it, but looking back, better communication and more intentional planning would have made the process smoother. I think that’s something many family businesses experience—navigating growth, emotions, and legacy all at the same time.

Q: What is the most rewarding part?

The most rewarding part of this work is having our kids alongside us—teaching them what good work ethic looks like and what it truly means to be part of a community. We know they may not choose this as their lifelong career, and that’s completely fine, but there’s a lot of real-life learning that comes from doing doors. Watching them grow through that experience is something we value deeply.

Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?

My advice to anyone stepping into the service industry is to surround yourself with people you can talk to and lean on. Having trusted voices to turn to—people you can ask questions, share struggles with, and bounce ideas off of—makes all the difference.

Another piece of advice: take care of your employees and do everything you can to help them succeed. Owning a business isn’t just about making money. It’s about serving your customers, supporting the community you live and work in, and honoring the people who show up for you day in and day out.

Joe & Chad Lindmark & Our Community

Q: What is your favorite thing about our community, favorite thing to do, or something unique about our community that you love? (Feel free to share as much as you’d like!)

Being a life long resident of Lake Country, my favorite thing is the people! Most people here are friendly and care about this community. It’s a great place to live and raise a family.

Q: Who is an interesting person you’ve met here in our community, and how have they inspired you?

An interesting person who I have met in our community is Adam Polcyzynski. He is a young man who started Hartland Liquidation, located in Stone Bank, it has been great watching him start a business and work so hard to make it go. It has grown so much over the last few years. I find myself stopping in to see what he has for sale now. It’s great to see his family in there helping every day too. What inspires me the most about him is seeing that next generation stepping forward, working hard and setting their foundation in this community.

Q: Do you have a favorite coffee shop, cocktail shop, or restaurant?

My favorite coffee shop has to be Mill Street Cafe in North Lake. Jenny might just make the best coffee cake I’ve ever eaten. It also helps that my daughter Grace works there and her smile lights up the room!

For Fun

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

Our faith inspires us to be better. At the end of it all, we still stand before Jesus and need to answer to Him!

Q: What makes you the happiest?

What makes us the happiest is being with our families. Fishing would be a close second! Ha!

Q: Any general life advice you would like to share?

Give back to the community that got you where you are!
