Lauren Otter

Lauren Otter was born and raised in Burlington, WI, where her affinity for animals blossomed during her early years when their family welcomed its first dog. This passion for veterinary medicine took root in her high school days while working alongside an emergency veterinarian. In 2017, she earned her Bachelor’s of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and in 2022, she proudly received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN.

Embarking on her post-graduate journey at Hallett Veterinary Hospital, she’s had the privilege of working alongside exceptional doctors and staff over the past year. The experience has been invaluable, offering a wealth of knowledge and a supportive environment. While Lauren finds fulfillment in all aspects of veterinary medicine, her particular focus lies in soft tissue surgery and dentistry.

Beyond the professional realm, she relishes her free time spent with family and friends, savoring moments outdoors. The journey so far has been rewarding, and she looks forward to continued growth and making a positive impact in the lives of the animals she cares for.

About Lauren Otter

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

Our roots run deep in Burlington, where our family proudly operates an agriculture equipment business. It’s a place filled with memories, and my parents continue to call it home. Alongside my older sister and younger brother, we’ve nurtured not just a business but a legacy built on hard work and dedication.

Adding a touch of canine joy to our family is Finn, the spirited Irish Terrier who brings boundless energy and companionship to our lives. As we navigate the dynamic world of agriculture equipment, each day is infused with the values instilled by our family, creating a bond that goes beyond business—uniting us in a shared commitment to our roots and the community we serve.

Burlington isn’t just a location. It’s the heart of our family story, where the love for our work and the warmth of familial ties converge. Together, we embrace the challenges and triumphs. We are grateful for the support of one another and the enduring spirit that defines our family and business alike.

Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do (whether working in our community, a business owner, volunteer, etc.). How did you choose that path?

I am delighted to be a part of the dedicated team at Hallett Veterinary Hospital as a general practice veterinarian. Having joined this esteemed practice in September 2022, every day presents new opportunities to provide compassionate care to our furry friends. The camaraderie among colleagues and the commitment to animal well-being make each moment at Hallett Veterinary Hospital truly fulfilling. I’m looking forward to contributing to the health and happiness of the pets in our community for many years to come.

Q: What do you love most about what you do?

We are dedicated to delivering exceptional veterinary medical care. Our mission at Hallett Veterinary Hospital is to serve the people and animals of the Lake Country community. With a commitment to excellence, our team of experienced professionals strives to ensure the health and well-being of your cherished pets. We understand the unique bond between animals and their owners, and we are honored to be entrusted with their care. From preventive measures to advanced medical treatments, we are here to support the thriving and vibrant community of Lake Country through top-notch veterinary services. Your pets deserve the best, and we are here to provide just that.

Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?

Embarking on this journey to pursue veterinary school in Tennessee meant leaving behind the familiar comforts of family and friends. While the distance separated us physically, the bond we shared remained steadfast. This decision, though challenging, was fueled by a deep passion for veterinary medicine and a commitment to fulfilling a lifelong dream.

Q: What is the most rewarding part?

The ability to aid animals and their owners in times of need is a profound privilege and a driving force behind my dedication to veterinary medicine. It goes beyond the clinical aspects of the profession. It’s about being a source of comfort, understanding, and healing during challenging moments. Witnessing the transformative impact of compassionate care on both animals and their human companions is incredibly rewarding. Every day brings the opportunity to make a positive difference, fostering a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment in my journey as a veterinarian.

Q: What are some of your future goals? Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to share?

My professional and personal aspirations align in my commitment to advancing surgical and ultrasound skills, aiming to enhance the care I provide to clients and animals in the Oconomowoc community. Embracing continuous learning, I seek to stay at the forefront of veterinary medicine, ensuring that I can offer the best possible solutions for the well-being of our furry companions.

In tandem with my professional growth, I am excited to take on the challenge of running another half marathon this year. This personal goal not only reflects my dedication to physical well-being. It also serves as a testament to the discipline and perseverance that drive me both in and out of the veterinary clinic.

Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?

Shadowing a veterinarian is an excellent initiative to gain firsthand insight into the intricacies of working in a clinic and to determine if a career in veterinary medicine aligns with your aspirations. This experience will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the daily responsibilities, challenges, and rewards associated with the profession.
