From Prayer to Purpose: Mikaela Ressman’s Journey with Homegrown Provisions
When Mikaela Ressman purchased Homegrown Provisions, she did it on a prayer—literally. A single mom of two girls, Mikaela had just sent her youngest off to full-time school and found herself at a crossroads. After years as a stay-at-home mom, she wasn’t sure what was next. But when the opportunity to buy the local café came along, something deep in her heart said: this is it.
With no roadmap, just faith and determination, Mikaela took the leap. Her vision? To create more than just a café—to build a true community space filled with warmth, connection, and fresh, homemade cuisine. Today, Homegrown Provisions proudly serves up locally sourced products, made-from-scratch meals, and a whole lot of heart.
Because for Mikaela, this isn’t just a business. It’s a place where everyone can feel at home.
About Mikaela Ressman
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I am a mother of two daughters, our dog, Atlas, our cat, Lula and our tortoise, Joey. My oldest, Dayton is 8, and Lennon is 4, both with very vibrant personalities that love attending St Joan Of Arc School.
Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do (whether working in our community, a business owner, volunteer, etc.). How did you choose that path?
I spend most of my time at Homegrown running the shop. I also love to paint and spend time outdoors. Besides the shop, I spend the rest of my time being a mother.
Q: What do you love most about what you do?
I love the support and relationships I have created with the people around me. The community and my business neighbors rock.
Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?
Learning how to balance personal and professional life. Time management has always been a struggle for me.
Q: What is the most rewarding part?
The most rewarding part is seeing peoples’ reactions when they come here, and building something my daughters can be proud of me for.
Q: What are some of your future goals? Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to share?
Some future goals are just jam packing Homegrown’s schedule with various events for everyone to love as well as adding a mobile option with a drive up window.
Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?
Advice I can give to someone interested in doing something similar is to go for it! We only have one life to live, so live it doing what you love!
Mikaela Ressman & Our Community
Q: What is your favorite thing about our community, favorite thing to do, or something unique about our community that you love? (Feel free to share as much as you’d like!)
My favorite thing about community is just that. Community. I have been shown nothing but support from the people around me. It brings me to tears thinking about all of the support and backing I have had along this journey and the friends and relationships I have made. Lake Country is truly the best place I can imagine raising my daughters to be a part of.
Q: Who is an interesting person you’ve met here in our community, and how have they inspired you?
So many people I could think to be named here, but the one that stands out the most to me is Jen Smith. She is the true definition of a badass and has been a rock of support for me in doing this. Jen has been nothing but a confidant and listening ear and gives me honest advice. She has become a really great friend whom I hope to cherish forever.
Q: Do you have a favorite coffee shop, cocktail shop, or restaurant?
My favorite local spot other than my own would have to be the Hideaway during the summer. They have a great menu and I love enjoying the lake with a nice cocktail and appetizer and some amazing homies.
Q: What 3 words would you use to describe our community?
Support, Connected, Influential.
For Fun
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I am left handed and cannot do a cartwheel.
Q: What is your favorite book, TV show, movie, poem, or song? Why?
My favorite book is The Outsiders.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
There is one person who inspires me to be a better individual and is very special to me and its my person, Travis.
Q: If you were a drink (can be a coffee drink, alcoholic, non-alcoholic, etc.), what would you be?
A spicy margarita!
Q: If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be with? Why?
My grandmother, Charlotte. My grandma always knew how to make me feel loved and special. She supported me throughout my entire life in everything I did. I think she’d be really proud of what I’ve built here.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Travel to all 50 states at least once.
Q: What makes you the happiest?
When I’m with my girls up north, away from all responsibilities, just having fun seeing them happy.
Q: Any general life advice you would like to share?
Strive to be kind always. Today, the world often shows it’s teeth to society. If there is anything we can teach the younger generation, it’s to practice being kind because there isn’t ever going to be enough.

Nice To Meet You:
I believe in positively impacting my clients and the community I live in, which is why I jumped at the chance to be an ambassador with “The Faces of Lake Country”. It’s a perfect blend of why I enjoy being a Realtor with Shorewest, Realtors, and everything I love about living in Lake Country.
I truly enjoy being a part of this community and helping others along the way. Prior to real estate, I was an Office Supervisor for the City of Waukesha Park & Recreation Department. During this time, I had the opportunity to work with many business owners and serve the general public. It was there that I realized that it really does take a village to make a community great and each and every one of us plays an important role.
