Jen McCoy Borgerding - Mint Beauty and Wellness

I am very excited to introduce such a kind, inspiring and generous member of our community, Jen McCoy Borgerding! She is mom, wife, business owner, yoga-lover, collaborator, and huge supporter of our local community. I’ve been inspired by her since the day I met her!

Jen owns and operates Mint Beauty and Wellness, a boutique spa retreat nestled in downtown Okauchee Lake, Wisconsin. She has over 23 years of experience as an aesthetician and massage therapist. Her passion for integrative health and wellness, along with her knowledge of skin health, nutrition, and yoga discipline, has allowed her to create a unique space that offers preventative medical procedures, aesthetic treatments, and preventative nutritional and anti-aging healing therapies all under one roof. With a dedicated team of professionals by her side, Jen continues to expand and improve Mint Beauty and Wellness, bringing the latest products and technologies to the Lake Country community. In fact, Mint is currently in expansion mode, which will allow them to offer more services to their clients.

We hope you enjoy learning more about Jen’s journey and how she turned her vision into a reality with Mint Beauty and Wellness in the Lake Country Area!

About Jen McCoy Borgerding

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have lived in Oconomowoc since 2015 with my son, Brady (who goes to OHS), my husband, Sean, and our two pups. One is a rescue Pittie named Koda, and the other is a Frenchton named Olive.
Q: Tell us about what you do and how you got started on this path.
I started in the health and wellness industry 23 years ago as an aesthetician and massage therapist! Integrative health and wellness and how the skin mirrors what’s happening on the inside has always fascinated me!
I have been practicing yoga since I was 17 and am fascinated by the intrinsic changes in the skin, the nerves, the overall nervous system, and the impact it has had on my life. I journeyed to two different ashrams in Florida and then to Beverly Hills, California, to live and breathe yoga under the gurus. Taking what I learned back to Florida, I studied and worked under Southern Florida’s Tibetan ambassador, and worked as an aesthetician at a beautiful quaint Med Spa in West Palm Beach that took care of post procedure cosmetic surgery patients.
Bringing together my knowledge of skin health and wellness, nutrition, and yoga discipline into a greater vision is something I wanted to create when I moved back to Wisconsin in 2005.
After my son, Brady, was born, I knew I wanted to raise him in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. In 2015, I bought a cute small home near Fowler Lake for the both of us. It was around that time that I met my husband, Sean, and knew I was ready to take the leap in opening up the business that I had envisioned for almost 2 decades!
After finding a cute building with a white picket fence along Main Street in downtown Okauchee, and after months of renovations, it became the perfect boutique spa! In 2016, I opened Mint Beauty & Wellness- a boutique spa retreat. It has been Lake Country’s best kept (not so little) beauty & wellness secret! And in 2016, I also pursued my permanent cosmetics certification and tattoo license, and have been creating beautiful natural micro-bladed brows for the women of Lake Country.
Now, as we expand again, we are able to offer more services to clients.  In fact, we are one of the only places now offering Exosome treatments, which uses live exosomes to preserve the youth of our skin cells. Science has really been able to push our industry into new territories, and we love being able to offer that at Mint.
Q: What has the growth of your business/work looked since starting?

I am fascinated at the tremendous growth our industry has been blessed with! One of the most wonderful things about this industry is that it continues to bring new research in skincare, anti-aging procedures, and health and wellness, which we as professionals can bring to our clients. My vision from the beginning was to create a health and wellness center that marries medical preventative procedures with preventative nutritional and anti-aging healing therapies. To address not just one aspect of health and beauty, but the entire body has a whole – medically and holistically.

Years ago, you would have to go one place to get a waxing or a facial, and then to a plastic surgeon or dermatologist to receive aesthetic medical treatments. Now, at Mint, you can go to one place that offers everything you need under one roof. Mint is unique in that it is quaint, quiet, and it feels like you are at home. But here, you’re receiving board-certified medical treatments and licensed professional treatments within our cozy boutique treatment center.

Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?
When we are always on social media and seeing other’s accomplishments, we can sometimes forget that it takes perseverance, grit and sacrifice to get to that big accomplishment. Learning to see the big picture when going through difficult times and knowing your goal is key. While growing my business over the last few years, I’ve learned to find the balance with family and business. I can’t get back those football games I have missed because of growing the business. However, I can learn from that and readjust where my priorities are. I think that’s called mom guilt, right?
Q: What is the most rewarding part of your work?
Every single day feels like I am not actually working. My husband will tell you I am always working! As a business owner and service provider, I am typically working 11 to 12 hour days between both aspects of that business. But, I really don’t feel like it is work. It is exciting investing your time and energy into something that you’re passionate about and that you know is helping so many people! When you’re doing what you love and you work hard at it, then you truly are living your passion!
Lately, I have been really proud of the team at Mint Beauty and Wellness. I opened my door with just myself and my medical Director. Now, we have a team of two board certified nurse injectors, three licensed aestheticians, two licensed massage therapists, two lash extension techs, and myself – certified in yoga & nutrition, licensed in esthetics, massage, and tattooing (Micro-blading). I’ve been most proud of the incredible professionals that we have here at Mint!
Q: Do you have any future goals, or do you have anything exciting coming up that you can share with readers?

Since opening Mint, I have expanded twice, and there is more on the horizon! We are always offering the latest, most innovative products and technologies that we stand behind. Our services are not just the latest trends. Lately, we have been busy with micro-blading, radio frequency skin tightening, and cosmetic injections. We also offer classes here to other like-minded businesses! On that note, Mint is about inclusiveness and connection. If you need additional services, we have a great relationships with many other spas and businesses in Lake Country so that we can better serve you as a whole. We love our community of professionals here at Mint and love our colleagues, friends, and clients that trust us! We continue to build each other up as a wellness and beauty community together in Lake County.
