Meet Abby Philleo

Abby Philleo plays a vital and dynamic role as a school nurse within the Pewaukee School District. She is recognized as a superhero by the children she cares for.  Abby’s empathy, compassion, and deep understanding of child development guide her through each day’s challenges with grace and dedication. Whether tending to minor injuries, managing chronic conditions, or promoting healthy habits, Abby ensures her students receive the support they need. Collaborating closely with students, families, and school staff, she fosters a nurturing environment where every child feels valued and safe. Abby finds fulfillment in her work, providing essential care and support within the health room of PLE.

Abby also fulfills a critical role at St. Luke’s Hospital, where she works in the Hyperbaric Chambers. In this capacity, she offers indispensable care and support to patients undergoing hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Abby is tasked with administering safe and effective hyperbaric oxygen therapy, prioritizing her patients’ comfort, safety, and overall well-being throughout their treatment programs. Her dedication and expertise make a significant difference in the lives of those undergoing this specialized therapy.

When Abby isn’t working, she loves cheering on her kids as they participate in their various sports.  In addition, she enjoys reading any Colleen Hoover book, traveling, indulging in a hot cup of coffee, or spending time with her friends and family.  She loves anything to do with Summer such as bonfires, going to the lake, & spending time outside.

This past year, I learned about Abby’s background as a collegiate soccer player which speaks volumes about her passion for the game. Simply standing beside her while her children are playing soccer reveals her connection and enthusiasm for the sport. With her evident love for soccer and natural compassion, Abby would undoubtedly excel as a coach. Her experience and dedication would make her an invaluable asset to any team, inspiring and guiding players to reach their full potential on and off the field.

Abby’s unwavering dedication to the PLE School District & St. Luke’s Hospital is truly appreciated, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to her for all the support she provides. Her commitment to the well-being of students and the patients makes a significant difference in the lives of many. Thank you, Abby, for your tireless efforts and the care you bring to our community.

About Abby Philleo

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

My husband Brett and I have been happily married for 13 wonderful years. Together, we have two beautiful children: our 9-year-old daughter, Piper, our 7-year-old son, Gus, and our beloved Goldendoodle, Bear!

Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do (whether working in our community, a business owner, volunteer, etc.). How did you choose that path?

From a young age, I was drawn to the field of nursing, fueled by a deep-seated passion for helping others. In 2012, I proudly graduated from Alverno College and embarked on my nursing career at Aurora St. Luke’s. After a few years, I felt a calling toward school nursing. In 2015, I found my home in the Pewaukee School District and have been serving as a nurse at Pewaukee Lake Elementary ever since. What I love most about nursing is the opportunity to offer compassionate care, unwavering support, and comforting reassurance to those in need every single day. It’s a privilege to make a difference in the lives of others through my work.

Q: What do you love most about what you do?

What I cherish most about my job is the opportunity to care for the youngest members of our community. Collaborating with doctors, parents, teachers, and administration, I strive to ensure that every student receives the highest quality care. I find immense joy in communicating and partnering with families, working together to ensure their children have a successful and fulfilling school year. It’s incredibly rewarding to be part of a team dedicated to the well-being and success of our students.

Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?

The field of nursing indeed offers plenty of career opportunities, each path presenting its own unique rewards and challenges. For me, the journey involved thoughtful consideration of which nursing path to pursue.

Q: What is the most rewarding part?

The most fulfilling aspect of my role is undoubtedly the students. It brings me immense joy when they drop by my office to share updates on their well-being or to express gratitude for the support I’ve provided. Witnessing their growth and progress throughout the school year is truly gratifying, reminding me of the profound impact I can have on their lives.

Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?

School nursing is an amazing career. You are promoting health in an educational setting. We provide health assessments, screenings, and interventions to help students. We collaborate with educators, parents, and health care providers to create a safe and healthy learning environment.
