Cecilia Coons

Hi, I’m Cecilia Coons! I’m a mom and the owner and director of Jump Joy Cheer here in Lake Country. I’m also proud to serve on the board of the Hartland-Lakeside Education Foundation and lead my daughter’s Girl Scout troop- both of which keep me connected to the amazing families and schools in our community. I started Jump Joy Cheer to give kids a place where they can build confidence, make friends, and have a ton of fun doing it. When I’m not at cheerleading, you can usually find me planning our next Girl Scout adventure, volunteering at school events, or grabbing a coffee between all the chaos.

About Cecilia Coons

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I live in Hartland with my husband, Bill, and our daughter, Evie, who’s in elementary school. She’s actually the reason I started Jump Joy Cheer- I wanted her to have a place where she could be active, make friends, and feel confident in who she is. As a family, we keep things pretty simple. We love movie nights, playing with our dog and two cats, and spending time outside when the weather is nice. Bill and Evie are my biggest cheerleaders, and I’m so thankful for their support every step of the way.

Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do (whether working in our community, a business owner, volunteer, etc.). How did you choose that path?

I’m the owner and director of Jump Joy Cheer, a local cheer program here in Lake Country. We focus on helping kids build confidence, make friends, and learn cheerleading in a super fun and encouraging environment. I also volunteer with the Hartland-Lakeside Education Foundation and love being involved in our schools and community events. I started Jump Joy because I saw a need for something different- something joyful, inclusive, and approachable, especially for beginners. As a mom, I wanted my own daughter to have that kind of experience, and once the idea was there, I couldn’t shake it. It’s been so rewarding to watch it grow and to be part of so many kids’ journeys.

Q: What do you love most about what you do?

What I love most is watching kids grow- not just in their cheer skills, but in their confidence. Seeing a shy kid come out of their shell, make friends, and light up when they hit a new skill or perform in front of a crowd… there’s nothing better. I also love creating a space where kids feel supported and celebrated just for being themselves. It’s not just about cheer- it’s about building kind, confident humans, and that’s what makes it all worth it.

Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?

One of the hardest challenges has been learning how to manage everything while living with bipolar 2. Starting and growing a business, being a mom, and staying active in the community is a lot on its own- but doing it while navigating mental health has pushed me to grow in ways I never expected. There have been tough days, moments of doubt, and times I’ve had to slow down and reset. But through it all, I’ve learned how to ask for help, trust my support system, and keep moving forward. That experience has made me more empathetic and more passionate about creating a space where everyone feels seen and supported- because I know firsthand how much that matters.

Q: What is the most rewarding part?

The most rewarding part is seeing the impact we’re making- not just in skills, but in self-esteem. When a parent tells me their child has become more confident or made their first real friend through cheer, it means everything. I love watching our athletes grow into themselves, find their voice, and feel proud of what they can do. Knowing that Jump Joy Cheer is a happy place for them- a place where they feel seen and celebrated- that’s the best reward of all.

Q: What are some of your future goals? Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to share?

We’re so excited to be moving into the brand new Elite Tumbling facility in Hartland this spring! Having access to a clean, modern space with top-notch equipment is a huge step forward for us and will make such a difference for our athletes and their experience. We’ve got a lot to look forward to- All-Star Team evaluations are coming up on May 18th, and our summer programs kick off June 1st. From camps to weekly classes, there’s something for everyone, whether your child is brand new to cheer or ready for the next level. It’s such an exciting season of growth for Jump Joy Cheer, and we can’t wait to welcome more families into the fun!

Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?

Take your time, start small, and focus on the kids. It can be easy to get caught up in comparing yourself to bigger programs or thinking you need to do it all at once, but growth comes with consistency and heart. Build something that reflects your values, treat families with kindness, and create a space where kids feel seen and supported. The rest will follow. And don’t be afraid to ask for help- whether it’s business advice, mentorship, or just someone to cheer you on behind the scenes. This kind of work is challenging, but it’s also incredibly rewarding.

Cecilia Coons & Our Community

Q: What is your favorite thing about our community, favorite thing to do, or something unique about our community that you love? (Feel free to share as much as you’d like!)

One thing I appreciate about Hartland is the small-town feel- you really do see familiar faces everywhere you go. It’s easy to stay connected, especially through the schools and community events. I love being involved through Jump Joy Cheer and the Hartland-Lakeside Education Foundation- it gives me the chance to contribute something positive and fun for local families. There’s something special about building community in a place where people genuinely care and show up.

Q: Do you have a favorite coffee shop, cocktail shop, or restaurant?

For coffee, Birch & Banyan in downtown Hartland is my go-to. It’s cozy, the drinks are always great, and it’s the perfect spot to grab a pick-me-up between practices or meetings.

For Fun

Q: What is your favorite book, TV show, movie, poem, or song? Why?

My favorite movie is The Birdcage. It’s hilarious, heartfelt, and iconic- and no matter how many times I watch it, it never gets old. The humor, the performances, and the message of love and acceptance just hit all the right notes. When it comes to music, I’m a pop-punk girl at heart. Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, and My Chemical Romance are my forever favorites. That early 2000s angst and energy? It’s everything. Whether I’m driving, working, or just need to blow off steam, blasting those songs instantly puts me in my element.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

My daughter, Evie, inspires me to be better every single day. I want to show her what it looks like to dream big, work hard, and still lead with kindness. She’s my reminder to keep pushing forward, even on the hard days, and to always make space for joy. I’m also inspired by the kids I coach. Their determination, energy, and trust in my program pushes me to keep growing- not just as a business owner, but as a person. They remind me how important it is to show up fully, lead with heart, and make sure every kid feels seen and celebrated.

Q: If you were a drink (can be a coffee drink, alcoholic, non-alcoholic, etc.), what would you be?

If I were a coffee drink, I’d be an iced shaken espresso with a splash of cold foam and a dash of cinnamon- strong, creative, and just a little extra. I’ve got big energy, I love thinking outside the box, and I try to show up in a way that’s both comforting and exciting. People might think I’m all caffeine and chaos, but underneath, I’m thoughtful, intentional, and always dreaming about how to make things better- for my athletes, my family, and my community. Basically, I’m the kind of order you go for when you want to gets things done.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

One big thing on my bucket list is to open a full Jump Joy Cheer facility- a space that’s completely our own, filled with energy, laughter, and purple everywhere ????. I want it to be a place where kids of all ages can grow up through the program, from their first forward roll to high-level competitions.

Q: What makes you the happiest?

The thing that makes me happiest is seeing my daughter smile and thrive- that’s the core of everything for me. Right next to that is watching the kids at Jump Joy light up when they learn something new or hit the mat with confidence. Those little moments- when someone feels proud of themselves, makes a new friend, or just has pure, unfiltered fun- fill me up. Add in some sunshine, music, and an iced coffee, and I’m one happy human.

Q: Any general life advice you would like to share?

Life isn’t about doing it all perfectly- it’s about showing up, and trying again and again. Trust your gut, protect your peace, and surround yourself with people who cheer you on. And don’t wait for a “perfect” moment to go after something big- done is better than perfect, and joy is always worth the risk.
