With 20 years in banking, mortgage, financial services and insurance, Jenny Nelson is proud to serve customers across the state as a local agent for Rural Mutual Insurance. Whether it’s farm, business, auto, home or life insurance – She’s here to help protect what matters most.
Born and raised in Wisconsin, Jenny has loved calling Lake County home for nearly 10 years. When not working hard for her clients, you’ll find her cooking up something tasty with family and friends, attending local events or enjoying time with her husband and their fun-loving 3 year old son, August.
About Jenny Nelson
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My husband, Lucas, and I both come from close-knit families of five and between our amazing parents, we’ve got 93 years of marriage to look
up to! We moved to the Lake Country area 8 years ago, and it’s truly become our home. Lucas works at Be Fitness in Delafield, and we recently celebrated our son August’s 3rd birthday. He is our pride and joy!
Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do. How did you choose that path?
I’m involved in our community through my work as an insurance agent, where I get to help individuals and families protect what matters most. I also wear many hats as a mom, which has taught me a lot about patience, organization and importance of genuine care; qualities that naturally extend into my professional life. Beyond work, I enjoy being a Delafield Chamber of Commerce Board of Director to help cultivate fun events that bring people to our community and support our local businesses.
Q: What do you love most about what you do?
Every time I get a call from someone referred by a current customer, it means the world to me. I take great pride in what I do and feel grateful and honored that people trust our agency to support them.
Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?
One of the biggest challenges I faced was not having a clear career goal after college. I switched my major from Dental Hygiene to Meeting & Event Management, which helps me both as a working mom and planner of the friend group. Taking that leap with Rural Insurance was a game-changer for me! I love what I do every day.
Q: What is the most rewarding part?
The most rewarding aspect is helping people clearly understand their needs and the reasons behind them, enabling informed and meaningful decisions.
Q: What are some of your future goals? Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to share?
We’re excited to be growing our agency by bringing on new staff and, down the line, agents so we can continue to evolve and meet our customers’ needs even better!
Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?
Success in this industry requires a genuine passion for helping others, a quality I’ve always embodied through my caretaker nature. Authenticity, integrity, and strong listening skills are essential qualities to thrive.
Jenny Nelson & Our Community
Q: What is your favorite thing about our community, favorite thing to do, or something unique about our community that you love? (Feel free to share as much as you’d like!)
No matter the season, there’s always something for everyone to enjoy here, whether it’s exploring the parks with kids, boating/kayaking/paddle boarding the lakes, browsing unique local shops, dining at our restaurants, or joining community events that bring people together.
Q: Do you have a favorite coffee shop, cocktail shop, or restaurant?
Our community is full of amazing spots! August’s favorite? Pumpkin chocolate chip muffin from Great Harvest. For lunch, I love the Goddess salad at Green Door Café. Girls night or husband date night is Zin (cauliflower dip, chop salad + lemon basil martini and don’t forget the key lime pie) or Belfre (seasonal plates + bubbles flight!) I.d has delicious seasonal dishes, and Kurt’s serves the best steak in Lake Country – hands down!
Q: What 3 words would you use to describe our community?
Active, supportive and fun.
For Fun
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I have a twin brother who is one minute older and nearly a foot taller. The fun twist? My husband’s a twin too!
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
Since July 4th, 2022, my son August has been a constant source of inspiration in all aspects of my life. In my professional journey, my husband motivates me with his passion and dedication to doing what he truly loves at Be Fitness.
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I’ve always dreamed of having a large garden like the one I grew up with, and of exploring the world with my husband and son.
Q: What makes you the happiest?
Watching my son grow up is such a joy-but it’s bittersweet, knowing how quickly time passes.
Food – I’m all about farm stand finds and farmers market hauls – nothing better than cooking with fresh, seasonal ingredients and treating myself to great food from our local restaurants. My current summer obsession is toasted sourdough topped with creamy burrata, marinated tomatoes, and fresh herbs straight from the garden.
Q: Any general life advice you would like to share?
Practice gratitude daily!

Nice To Meet You:
I believe in positively impacting my clients and the community I live in, which is why I jumped at the chance to be an ambassador with “The Faces of Lake Country”. It’s a perfect blend of why I enjoy being a Realtor with Shorewest, Realtors, and everything I love about living in Lake Country.
I truly enjoy being a part of this community and helping others along the way. Prior to real estate, I was an Office Supervisor for the City of Waukesha Park & Recreation Department. During this time, I had the opportunity to work with many business owners and serve the general public. It was there that I realized that it really does take a village to make a community great and each and every one of us plays an important role.
