✨ Strength in the Saddle: The Story of Sarah McClintock ✨
When you step onto the grounds of Highland Ridge Stables, you don’t just see horses—you feel the heart of a woman who has dedicated her life to teaching, training, and inspiring. Sarah McClintock has been the driving force behind Highland Ridge since she first opened the doors in 2013. By 2016, her dream had grown into a thriving equestrian hub, where riders of all ages and horses of every size learn to shine in and out of the show ring.
But in 2024, Sarah faced a battle far tougher than any horse show arena: she was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. Despite the daunting treatments, surgeries, and physical toll, Sarah’s spirit remained unbroken. She continued showing up for her students, guiding them with patience and determination, and attending competitions with the same grace and grit that had always defined her.
Her resilience did not go unnoticed. That very year, she was honored with Horse Trainer of the Year—a recognition that wasn’t just about skill, but about heart, perseverance, and the way she poured herself into her community even in the midst of her hardest fight.
Sarah’s journey also sparked a new tradition. Last October, her husband, Tony, transformed their property into a Haunted Hike, a creative and spirited event designed to raise funds for medical bills. What began as a gesture of love quickly became a community movement. Families came together, laughter and good-natured screams echoed through the woods, and most importantly, hope was raised alongside dollars. Sarah now plans for the Haunted Hike to grow each year, not just for her own journey, but to help other cancer survivors facing the same uphill battle.
Today, Sarah stands as a testament to courage—proof that even when life delivers its harshest blows, passion, community, and love can carry us through. Whether in the saddle, the show ring, or on a haunted trail, she reminds us all that strength isn’t just about winning titles—it’s about never giving up and finding light even in the darkest woods.
