About Kelly Grandlich

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

My husband Evan and I have been married since September 2019. We welcomed our first little guy in April 2021, and one year later welcomed a sweet little girl in July. Together, we are very active, we love to hike, run, ski and we also love to read books together and play tag. Most of all we base the core of our family on the foundation of Christ.

Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do (whether working in our community, a business owner, volunteer, etc.). How did you choose that path?

I am a registered dietitian nutritionist, and own my own business called Nurture Nutrition. It is a virtual business located in Hartland, the ‘heartland’ of Lake Country. I work with families, athletes and individuals. The reason I chose this path is because I myself have had challenges with nutrition.

Starting at a young age I developed very serious GI issues, and up until July 2023, I didn’t know what they were – it turns out I have celiac disease. Celiac is an autoimmune disorder that affects your small intestine. The protein gluten is a major trigger for flare ups for individuals with this condition. When the intestine is in a constant state of inflammation it makes it hard to absorb nutrients you need from food. Which is why individuals who have celiac cannot eat gluten.

During my time helping others through previous ventures, internships and jobs, I noticed that there is a very large gap in Lake Country when it comes to resources and nutrition for families, especially the resources that truly are there to help you navigate what sometimes can be an extremely hard task. Change isn’t easy, and I know that because I have had to change my nutrition and lifestyle many times throughout the years.

Q: What do you love most about what you do?

Serving others. I truly am here to share my gifts and talents with others and by serving my clients through nutrition, I am satisfied. It isn’t an easy task for both the client and the dietitian, but it is worth it. Nutrition is preventative medicine and if we can get a handle on habits at a young age, even at an old age, it really sets you as the individual up for success.

Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?

Going back to school to get another degree while being pregnant twice! I did it though. I have multiple nutrition certifications, but that isn’t enough to provide clients with the information that they need. So shortly after my husband and I got married, we decided it would be best for me to go back to school. So I did. On top of school, registered dietitians have residency at multiple locations, then have to pass a board exam to be registered with the state and allowed to give nutrition advice.

Q: What is the most rewarding part?

As I said above, meeting my clients face to face, or via zoom and being able to see them progress and reach their goals. I am the accountability factor, which most people need in order to succeed. The path to success really lies in the hands of the client. I am here to give the roadmap, suggestions, guidance and encouragement.

Q: What are some of your future goals? Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to share?

I have a launch party for the business on December 1 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at the Hartland Public Library. It’s free to all. I will be hosting a 10-15 minute presentation describing what it is I do and what I can offer the Lake Country area. I also will have some goodies from other local businesses such as Birch and Banyan to give out to attendees.

Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?

Take the leap of faith. You can do it. We truly need an army of private practice registered dietitians. So much misinformation is out there on social media, just think of how much we could change by putting out the truth and debunking all the myths.

Kelly Grandlich & Our Community

Q: What is your favorite thing about our community, favorite thing to do, or something unique about our community that you love? (Feel free to share as much as you’d like!)

I LOVE how much other local businesses support each other, between the ladies nights out in downtown Oconomowoc to the willingness to let new businesses advertise for ‘free’ on bulletin boards. You truly feel like you are welcome and a part of this community. My favorite thing to do is spend time at my in-laws’ house. They are on Lake Keesus, less than a mile away from our home, so we get together on the boat and enjoy the beautiful Wisconsin spring, summer and fall.

Q: Do you have a favorite coffee shop, cocktail shop, or restaurant?

Birch and Banyan is my favorite coffee shop – I have spent many days studying here.

Q: What 3 words would you use to describe our community?

Tight-knit, welcoming, and family-friendly.

For Fun

Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I had a corporate career for seven years, with one of the largest construction staffing companies in the United States, where I started a recruiting branch to bring in local office staff.

Q: What is your favorite book, TV show, movie, poem, or song? Why?

Favorite book is Get Out of Your Head by Jennie Allen, favorite TV show is Survivor, favorite movie is PS I Love You, favorite song is Silence by JWLKRS.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

Jesus and my husband.

Q: If you were a drink (can be a coffee drink, alcoholic, non-alcoholic, etc.), what would you be?

I would be an extra dirty martini or a tequila with soda water and a freshly squeezed lime.

Q: If you could have lunch with anyone, who would it be with? Why?

Jesus – I don’t think I need to explain this one.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?

To travel to Italy and Sicily to visit my relatives.

Q: What makes you the happiest?

Being around my husband and kids.

Q: Any general life advice you would like to share?

If you are a parent – don’t wish away any of the days you have together with your kiddos. Life is short and they are just figuring out how to be in this world just as much as you are figuring out how to be a parent – you are both new at this. Practice patience, if you feel them thinning out – breath in deep and walk away. Just as we have days where we are struggling, so will our kids. We are the safest place for them to be.
