Caitie Schulz

Meet Caitie Schulz, whose life has been deeply touched by the challenges of having a sick child, has taken it upon herself to bring joy and relief to other families facing similar struggles. After enduring a heartbreaking Christmas spent in the hospital with her daughter, Grace, she decided to transform her own experience into a source of hope for others.

Caitie organizes a massive fundraiser every Christmas to support families with children battling illness. Inspired by her daughter, Grace, who faced a challenging journey of recovery, Caitie understands the emotional toll that such circumstances can take on families. Her firsthand experience has fueled her determination to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others who find themselves in similar situations.

Trauma Momma Method

After spending a Christmas in the hospital, Caitie recognized the profound impact that small gestures can have on parents and children facing health challenges. The fundraiser aims to provide substantial gift bags filled with essential items for sick children, offering comfort and support to families during a time that should be filled with joy and celebration.

You can learn more at Caitie’s blog, Traumamommamethod.com. They are in need of some essential items for families. If you are interested in making a difference in the lives of others, here is how you can help:

-Mobiles. Most of these babies/kids are on their backs for the majority of their stay and they love something to look at. This was one of Gracie’s favorite items!
– Sound machines. The cardiac unit is filled with crying babies, alarms, and lots of beeps, not to mention staff coming in and out of the room. This tends to disturb a sleeping child and doesn’t allow for the 100% restfulness they need!
– Socks, Booties & Swaddles. Most of these children cannot wear clothes due to all of the tubes and wires. Booties and socks help keep them warm and more comfortable!
-Pacifiers. Our really sick kiddos are on IV nutrition and lipids which means they are not eating. They use pacifiers to help with hunger. Gracie was notorious for this and needed a pacifier at all times! The animal pacifiers allow some of the little ones to be able to get them back in their mouths if they fall out.
-Baby mirrors. Babies are turned from side to side (as long as they can be) to prevent them from having a flat head. They love to have something to look at and generally, their favorite thing is themselves!
Lastly, SNACKS. Most of the moms are breastfeeding and spending LONG days in their room afraid to leave their child’s side. It gets expensive to live in the hospital and any small snacks are greatly appreciated!
If you simply want to shop elsewhere and just drop things off at my house please do not hesitate to ask for my address, I live in Dousman!
Thank you again for your consideration!!!!

About Caitie Schulz

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I am married to an amazing husband. We have identical twin girls, Gracie and Paisley, and three dogs, a cat and chickens. Our neighborhood is great and we love all of our neighbors surrounding us. It’s the perfect place to raise our little family.

Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do (whether working in our community, a business owner, volunteer, etc.). How did you choose that path?

I’ve always been a very passionate person when it came to caring for others, I truly think that when somebody knows you were thinking of them you make a huge difference in their day. We spent a Christmas in the hospital, and once Grace was finally home I decided that I wanted to put together a huge fundraiser every single Christmas. My daughter is my inspiration. I know how touched I felt when we would get something little, so I could only imagine what it would feel like to get a large gift bag full of items for your sick child.

Q: What do you love most about what you do?

I know that I’m making a difference in little lives just like my little girl. I know that it matters.

Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?

The biggest challenge is wondering if my child is going to survive.

Q: What is the most rewarding part?

Knowing that I made a difference in a family’s life that is going through something very difficult.

Q: What are some of your future goals? Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to share?

I’d love to start a nonprofit in Gracie’s name someday.

Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?

It’s a lot of work, but it is so worth it!
