About Joe & John Horning
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
Living in Lake Country since 1993 and raising our families here has created a deep sense of connection and rootedness within the community. Lake Country holds a special place in our hearts, not only as the place where we’ve established our own homes but also as a gathering point for our entire family.
The decision to purchase a duplex together in the Village of Pewaukee allowed my brother & I to build a strong bond. It allowed us to support one another and create a close-knit network within the community. Over the years, Lake Country has witnessed a lot of growth and development which has served as a backdrop for countless cherished memories and experiences.
Having our three other siblings and parents also residing in Lake Country created a unique sense of unity. Living in close proximity to one another offers opportunities for frequent gatherings, celebrations, and shared experiences.
Q: Please tell us about your life and what you do (whether working in our community, a business owner, volunteer, etc.). How did you choose that path?
We grew up in a real estate family. Our grandfather started Wauwatosa Realty in 1946, now known as Shorewest Realtors.
Working alongside our family members during our high school and college years has provided us with valuable insights and practical experience.
As a third generation now running the family business, we have the opportunity to build upon the legacy and expertise established by our grandfather and previous generations.
Continuing the family legacy can be both challenging and fulfilling. It requires a balance between honoring the traditions and values that have guided the business thus far while also embracing innovation and exploring new opportunities. By leveraging our collective experience and knowledge, John & I can steer Shorewest Realtors toward continued success in the dynamic real estate industry.
Q: What do you love most about what you do?
We take immense pride in the accomplishments of our agents and support team members. Their hard work, expertise, and commitment to delivering exceptional service are the pillars of our success. We understand that their success is our success, and we are dedicated to providing them with the support, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive in their careers.
In addition to our commitment to our clients and team, we also prioritize giving back to our community. We believe in the importance of being active participants and contributors to the places we call home. Whether it’s through sponsoring local events, participating in community service initiatives, or supporting charitable organizations, we strive to make a positive difference in the communities we serve.
Giving back not only allows us to make a meaningful impact but also strengthens our connection to the community and builds trust and goodwill among our members. We recognize that our success is intertwined with the well-being of the community, and by investing in its growth and welfare, we contribute to a thriving and prosperous environment for everyone.
Our passion for the real estate business, combined with our genuine desire to help others and give back, creates a powerful synergy that fuels our success. It is this combination of professionalism, dedication, and community engagement that sets us apart and drives our commitment to excellence.
Q: What was the most difficult challenge in getting to where you are now or in your life?
Growing a family business across three generations requires commitment, dedication, and careful planning. Many family businesses do face challenges along the way and may not make it to the third generation. It’s a testament to the resilience, hard work, and shared vision of our family that Shorewest Realtors has not only survived but thrived throughout the years.
Q: What is the most rewarding part?
Witnessing the success of our agents, team members, and the countless homeowners we have assisted over the past 75 plus years has been the most rewarding part. Reflecting on the positive impact our family business has had on the lives of so many people is something we never take for granted.
Q: What are some of your future goals? Do you have anything exciting coming up that you would like to share?
Continuing to grow and expand while maintaining an active presence in the local communities we call home.
While expanding, it’s important for us to stay connected and engaged in the local communities where we serve. Being active means being involved in community initiatives, continuing to support our many local charitable organizations and sponsoring local events, so that we can continue to build strong relationships with everyone around us.
Q: What advice would you give to someone interested in doing something similar to what you have done/are doing?
Follow your dreams, work hard, and stay true to your vision are key ingredients for success. It’s important to have the courage to pursue your passions. Don’t let others discourage or sway you from your path.
Dreams are the seeds of innovation and personal fulfillment. They provide the motivation and inspiration to push beyond your comfort zone and strive for greatness. By identifying your aspirations and setting clear goals, you can chart a course towards achieving them.
